The main reason I have decided to start a record label and publishing company is to publish high quality original music, created by independent musicians and bands from Croatia (for now) who cannot get a break from the so-called large publishing companies.
I myself have played in bands that unfortunately could not publish their work (Genaro Flores, Con Fusion...) because it did not fit into the standards preferred by the music industry.
Another reason for this step is the fact that I have not been able to find a publisher for the album by Donna Lee Saxophone Quartet for two years, not because it is a bad product, but because publishers in Croatia simply do not recognize such music, and we do not have anybody to push our album at the right levels.
Some may say I will have problems with distribution, which is a valid objection, but taking into consideration the recent sales and discounts in CD shops we can conclude that this distribution channel will continue to loose significance. The causes for this are obvious: pirate copying of CDs, online shopping and exchange (P2P), which will become even more present in Croatia with the continuous increase in internet speed (broadband, DSL).
Naturally, it is good to have a few CDs in the shops in addition to online distribution, but since Zivaldo Publishing will not be publishing such large editions this will not be crucial.
